For more than 20 years, Heidi Johnson, BSN, RN, has quietly carried a light that touches every room she enters. As a nurse since 2001, an Arkansas-based artist whose resin vases have captured statewide attention, and the founder of Heidi’s Healthy Harvest, Heidi embodies what happens when passion, faith, and purpose weave themselves into a life of service. Whether she’s nurturing patients at the bedside, sculpting vibrant resin vases filled with divine color, or tending to her year-round garden, Heidi lives with intention, creativity, and compassion—showing us all what it means to run your race, honor your gifts, and make room for your own healing.

Today, we are honored to share her story Inside The Lounge.
A Calling Rooted in Compassion
For Heidi, nursing began long before she wore the title. Growing up with asthma meant frequent hospital visits—moments where the kindness of nurses shaped not only her healing but her future.
“The compassion and empathy that was shown by a stranger while I was in distress helped shape me,” she shared. “It made me want to do the same for others.”

Two decades later, that same spirit still guides her.
Offering a service during someone’s most vulnerable moments, she says, is what keeps her grounded.
“Sometimes all someone needs is a smile and reassurance. Taking care of others comes natural to me. Going the extra mile is my happy space.”
It’s no surprise her husband proudly points to the countless patients who can attest to the steady, meaningful impact she makes every day.
Running Her Own Race
Heidi has never been competitive, and she sees that as a blessing.
Instead of chasing titles or hierarchy, she chose freedom.
Throughout her nursing career, she floated from unit to unit and hospital to hospital, embracing variety instead of staying stationary.
“I never got comfortable anywhere,” she said. “My attention was always about the patients.”
Being PRN, by choice—gave her the power to protect her peace. If an environment didn’t feel right, she could step away, regroup, and return refreshed.
“I made up my mind early that the best way to build my skills was to be open to change,” she explained. “I enjoyed going wherever the critical needs were. No matter what I was going through in life, when I walked into the hospital, my mindset shifted to: someone here needs me.”
It is a philosophy that guided her nursing, her creativity, and her life.
Delette Resin Designs: Art Led by Faith
Heidi’s art journey began with grief, curiosity, and divine timing.
A wind chime she never finished turned into coasters…
which turned into a resin vase she saw someone make on YouTube…
which turned into a business God placed on her heart. She founded Delette Resin Designs in February 2021—during a time when she missed her mother deeply and felt sadness return during certain months each year.
“I truly felt God wanted me to create this business to keep me busy at that time,” she said.

Today, her vases—vibrant, sparkling, full of stones and crushed glass, are cherished across Arkansas. Her talent has been showcased at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, featured at the White Oak Bayou Wetlands Conservancy’s Taste of the Boulevard auction, and commissioned by the Arkansas Nurses Association and the Dean of Nursing at UAMS.
Each vase is a spiritual experience.

“I choose the colors blindly unless it’s a custom piece. The finished look is always a surprise even to me. I hope people feel the heavenly divine intervention I feel when creating them.”
She listens to gospel music while she works, following the gentle guidance of the Holy Spirit in every pour, every color, every detail.
Healing in the Garden: Heidi’s Healthy Harvest

“The space became where I spent most of my free time,” she said. “I noticed how happy I was in the garden. I use it to decompress after a long day at work.”
While art fed Heidi’s creativity, gardening fed her soul.
What began as a few plants on her patio encouraged by her daughter, quickly grew into raised beds, trellises, and a sanctuary overflowing with life.
Gardening gave her joy, rest, spiritual connection, and a newfound community.
From classes to grants to volunteer-led gardens across the city, she discovered a world she never knew existed.
“I encourage the gardening experience not just for fresh vegetables, but for a holistic lifestyle. It’s not a cure-all, but it’s beneficial.”
She now gardens year-round, embracing the challenges and patience that fall and winter require.
Her advice to beginners?
“Start small. Maybe a pot or two. Plant something easy. I personally love starting from seeds because it lets you enjoy the full process from planting to tasting.”
The Intersection of Care, Creativity & Calling
When asked how nursing, art, and gardening connect, Heidi smiles softly.
They all nourish different parts of her:
- Nursing nurtures the spirit through service.
- Art expresses the soul through bold color and divine inspiration.
- Gardening anchors her in God’s presence through nature.
Staying Connected to The Nursing Community
For Heidi, staying connected to The Nurses Lounge is simple:
