After nearly a decade in nursing, Sierra Davis—known online as Sierra from Arkansas—made a courageous decision to hang up her scrubs and follow her passion for beauty, self-expression, and natural hair care. Today, as a proud cosmetology student and Beauty Brand Curator, Sierra is redefining what it means to care for others—through creativity, confidence, and conection.
From Bedside to Beauty
Her story is not just one of transformation—it’s a story of empowerment, faith, and rediscovering purpose beyond the bedside.
The Journey: When Purpose Calls for a Pivot
After years of compassionate care, Sierra began to feel the weight of exhaustion. “I found myself becoming what social media hates—the grumpy nurse,” she admits. “I was still skilled and knowledgeable, but my patience and compassion were fading.”
Her inner voice whispered one message over and over: “Stop while you’re ahead.”
That voice, Sierra says, was grace in disguise. “God had to rebuild me—whole—so I could enter the beauty industry ready to pour into others again.”
Her experience reflects the reality many nurses face—when compassion fatigue sets in and the heart begins yearning for something more. Sierra’s courage to pivot is a reminder that stepping away doesn’t mean failure—it can mean faith in your next calling.
The Transition: Courage, Grit, and Grace
Leaving a stable career in healthcare was one of Sierra’s hardest decisions. “I struggled with guilt,” she shares. “Everyone said, ‘Just switch specialties,’ but I knew I didn’t want to be in healthcare anymore. My heart wasn’t aligned.”
That honesty—and the faith to act on it—sparked her breakthrough.
Through a Dave Ramsey course at church, Sierra learned financial discipline and found community support. “It gave me the courage to face both guilt and money stress head-on,” she says.
When friends doubted her decision, Sierra held firm. “I decided to listen to myself. And I’ve never looked back.”
The Vision: Empowerment Through Beauty
Before and after — Finger Coils
Today, Sierra is building an entire beauty brand ecosystem centered on natural hair, self-love, and cultural pride. Her upcoming Silk Press Wig line celebrates Black beauty while protecting natural hair. “It’s The Wig of the Culture,” she says with pride.
For Sierra, empowerment means education—helping women understand and love their natural hair. “Our hair is unique. I want to help clients see its beauty and treat it with the same care we give to others.”
Behind the chair, Sierra continues to nurse in a new way—restoring confidence and helping women feel seen.
Faith, Passion & Purpose
“After leaving nursing, I started pursuing God for real,” Sierra says. “Now, I recognize that little voice guiding me—it’s Him.”
Her brand, Sierra from Arkansas, embodies faith and self-expression. “I show my own growth through my hair and lifestyle. Confidence comes from honoring yourself and walking in what God called you to do.”
Her message to other nurses is simple but powerful:
“It’s okay to feel guilty for leaving, but you deserve joy too. Take the first steps and let God handle the rest.”
Life After Nursing: Redefining Success
For Sierra, success isn’t about titles or paychecks—it’s about peace. “Success is using your testimony to help others,” she says. “Leaving nursing wasn’t losing—it was God redirecting me.”
She honors her years in healthcare, especially during the pandemic when she cared for others despite personal loss. “Those years taught me strength, compassion, and the value of purpose. They built the woman I am today.”
Looking Forward: The Future of HairType
With her upcoming Silk Press Wig collection and future collaborations, Sierra is focused on creating with integrity. “I turned down a $4,500/month brand deal because it didn’t align with my values,” she says. “When you walk God’s path, shortcuts aren’t necessary.”
Her message to women everywhere is one of empowerment and faith:
“Ask God who He says you are. Surround yourself with people who speak life into your vision. And when doubt creeps in—remember, His word is final.”
